    What Is Fiber Internet?

Fiber internet is a type of broadband connection, similar to the traditional DSL and cable. Like a landline telephone, DSL transmits data using electricity over copper or cable wires. Cable internet uses coaxial cables. Both of these transmission methods can make your internet connection more prone to intermittent outages due to weather, distance or even electromagnetic interference.

Fiber internet sends data using light that passes through glass tubing, known as fiber-optic cables, which are less susceptible to outside interference. This allows for the fastest internet speeds with the most reliable connection yet.

    Want to Build a Bundle?

Pair your high-speed internet plan with one phone line for only $10.52 per month more, plus taxes and fees. Our home phone lines come with features, including distinctive ringing and select call forwarding.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What Speed Do You Need?

What your household needs will depend on several factors.

    1. Number of people in your household and number of connected devices
Consider first the amount of people in your household and their connected devices you have — and don’t forget those mobile devices and televisions. The more devices you have, the more speed you’re likely going to need.
    2. Types of Online Activities Next, think through what it is your household does online. Basic activities — such as standard-definition streaming, online shopping and email — do not require as much bandwidth. Activities, including, but not limited to, high-definition streaming, gaming and video calls, will require faster speeds. Higher bandwidth activities will lend themselves to a high-speed and reliable fiber connection.
    3. Upload Speed Needs Lastly, you’ll want to take into account upload speeds, or how fast your device can send data to the internet. Upload speeds will take precedence when you’re sharing photos or videos online, video calling or chatting, or even sharing documents for school or work. Traditional broadband connections typically provide much lower upload speeds than download speeds, whereas fiber solutions allow for faster symmetrical download and upload speeds.
